As the subtitle makes clear, my main job for nearly the last two decades has been being a stay-at-home dad. I’ve supported our family and household as my wife worked (and works) a full-time-plus executive role. But this week, we took the second of our two children to college. All has gone smoothly so far, and here’s to hoping it stays that way! 🤞🤞🤞
I plan to write more about my experience as a stay-at-home dad. We’ve been fortunate, overall. We’ve also moved around the world and back, and we’ve dealt with chronic health conditions, including severe food allergies and Crohn’s. In fact, my one son is eating his very first meals not prepared by our family. The stress is still intense, no matter what the distance.
And there’s still much parenting to be done, of course. It’s remarkable that it can take 25 years or more to teach, advise, and assist with everything it takes to be an adult in modern society. Navigating the U.S. healthcare system and buying a house in the future, I’m looking at you two (at the very least).
Perhaps going forward I’ll have something more profound to say, but for now:
I’m tired.
I’m proud of my boys.
And I love my family.
It might be time for a drink and a nap.
